The Ones Left Behind: A Limited Run on Vimeo On Demand (Outside Japan Only)
For a short time, The Ones Left Behind: The Plight of Single Mothers in Japan will be available to rent on Vimeo On Demand for audiences outside of Japan.
This documentary has been a labor of love from day one. To be honest, since we began this journey, we’ve faced constant rejection. Every pitch felt like it hit a wall. Every email unanswered. Every "no" made us question if people cared about the struggles we were trying to show.
But we never gave up.
It hasn't made its way to the bigger streaming platforms like Netflix or Amazon Prime Video just yet. That was the dream – still is! Despite all the setbacks, the film has screened in cinemas in Tokyo, Okinawa, Nagano, Nagoya, Toyama, Osaka, and will keep playing until June in various cinemas in Japan including Saitama, Yokohama, Utsunomiya, and Tokyo again. That didn’t come easy. It took patience, persistence, and an unwavering belief in the story we were telling.
So while it's still not available to stream in Japan, I wanted to give those outside Japan a chance to see it, even if just for a limited time.
If you’ve followed this journey, or if you care about the unseen lives of so many struggling mothers in one of the world’s richest countries, I hope you’ll watch it.
It’s raw. It’s real. And it matters. Please share with your community.
