Talking to grade 5 kids
Today I went to an International School in Tokyo to give a talk to grade 5’s about some of themes in my film. Ranging from Japanese hidden poverty to saying hello and smiling to our neighbours, recognising people’s SOS cries for help in our society and reaching out to help or even take a hand that wants to help, and also about the film itself and single mothers.
I showed the trailer for the film and dissected it, talked about filmmaking and the process… but as soon as I told them I was a pro wrestler they all jumped on their laptops and looked me up… that part blew the teacher’s minds 😂
On the wall behind me are the 17 SDG’s, the sustainable development goals and every child in the school must pick 2 of them and research and come up with ways to reach the SDG goals. A world apart from anything I also ever did in school!! If you had asked me only 2 years ago if I would be getting up in front of adults and children and talking about these topics, I wouldn’t have believed you.
